Fare paid zone

Most transit systems require riders to pay a fare, and some of those systems rely on stations with a fare paid zone.

Systems that are built around fare paid zones do not require a staff member to check each rider has paid their fare when boarding a vehicle. That is time consuming. Rather systems that are built around a fare paid zones have robots that validate the rider had paid their fare ringing the fare paid zone. Everyone inside the fare paid zone is presumed to have paid their fare, and is allowed to board vehicles without proving they paid their fare.

Systems that use a fare paid zone typically have officials who conduct random spot checks.

Some systems have a single fare. Riders pay this single fare no matter how far they travel.

Other systems have the fare the rider pays vary by the distance traveled. When the single fare system relies on a smart card it requires only a single tap for authorization. Riders on distance based system tap both at the station where they board and in the statiob where they disembark. if they forget to tap off they will be charged as if they rode to the terminal station.
