Faster than light travel

Faster than light travel is the theoretical idea of something being able to move faster than the speed of light. According to Einstein's Theory of Relativity, it should be impossible to move faster than light.

It's an idea which has been used in literature, and in TV and films such as Star Trek and Star Wars.

One of the problems in establishing and maintaining intergalactic civilizations will be the relatively slow speed of communication. The ansible is a hypothetical device meant to communicate instantaneously regardless of the distance.
