Federal Agent

From Encyc

There are over one hundred Federal agencies, in the United States, whose officials may identify themselves as a Federal Agent, when exercising their have law enforcement authority. These officials carry a badge, are armed with a firearm, and have the authority to arrest suspects.

Even the Post Office employs investigators with the power to arrest.

A CIA agent, on the other hand, is not a law enforcement agency, and its officials are not law enforcement officers. The individuals who are called "agents", by the CIA, would be called "informants" by the FBI, or other agencies.
