Finger

The term finger refers to the individual digits of a human hand.

Human hands have five fingers. Four similar looking fingers, each with three knuckles, or joints, face the finger known as the thumb, which only has two knucklejoints.

Human evolved to be able to hold tools in their hand using both a "power grip" and a "precision grip", because of the mechanics of thumb. Earlier hominids's thumbs lacked the flexibility to grip tools in a precision grip.

Human feet also have five digits, called toes, evolved to help maintain an upright posture. Human's closest relative, the Chimpanzee and Bonobo, have dextrous fingers on their feet.
