Fly

A fly is an insect of the order Diptera. There are approximately 120,000 known species of Diptera. They are found in nearly every part of the world, including on high mountains and in the subarctic.

Their distinctive character is that their second pair of wings has been reduced to a pair of knobs (or halteres) that are used for balance, leaving just one pair of wings for flight.
