Francophone

A francophone is an individual whose first, or sometimes second, language is French.

Francophone countries include France (including French Guiana), Canada, St. Martin, Belgium, and Switzerland.

The French empire was once quite extensive. There are large parts of Africa, Asia, and some Pacific islands that speak French as first or second languages. Examples include Algeria, Syria, Chad, Madagascar, and French Polynesia.
