Friedrich Paulus
Friedrich Paulus was a German general during World War II. He commanded forces that got trapped in Stalingrad, and were cut off and forced to surrender in February 1943. Hitler promoted him to Field Marshall just before the surrender, expecting him to kill himself because no German field marshall had ever surrendered, but Paulus did not do it. Instead he became a prisoner of the Soviets and helped them to make anti-Nazi propaganda.
