German battleship Bismarck

From Encyc

The German battleship Bismarck was a large ship in the German navy during World War II. It broke out into the Atlantic and sunk the HMS Hood. Eventually a Fairey Swordfish torpedo bomber scored a lucky hit on the Bismarck's rudder, jamming it and causing the ship to steer in a circle. The Royal Navy closed in and sank the ship.

Hitler had invested a lot of resources in the ship and was upset that it was lost. He forbade further breakout attempts, preferring to use the remaining capital ships as a fleet in being.
