Germinal matrix
The Germinal matrix is the source of hair growth (http://www.hair-loss-rankings.com/hair-loss-glossary.htm). This area can also be related to finger and toenails (http://dermatology.about.com/cs/nailanatomy/a/nailanatomy.htm) and, in infants, to brain activity (http://library.med.utah.edu/WebPath/PEDHTML/PED058.html). The germinal matrix of the toenail is excised as part of Zadek's procedure to remove an ingrown toenail (http://books.google.com.au/books?id=S-DfP970lrcC&pg=PA87&lpg=PA87&dq=germinal+matrix+zadek's+procedure&source=web&ots=qzs_LIxjDz&sig=5xz7fk6BnyGXJqF7X09ZKGWGpDA&hl=en&sa=X&oi=book_result&resnum=1&ct=result).
This (amongst many other medical procedures) is incorrectly described in Wikipedia, where they falsely state that the germinal matrix is related to the brain, falsely applying the infant brain problems associated with this region to suggest that it is an area associated with the brain.
