Google test
Appearance
The Google test is when someone looks up a term on Google to see how many hits that they get (or how many unique hits) as a way of determining the popularity of the term. This is often used to justify the inclusion of articles on Wikipedia as part of their AFD process, although it has other applications beyond Wikipedia.
The count returned is known as the Google Hits count, or GHits.
However the hit count isn't accurate at all. It's simply an estimate, even a Google employee said they "haven't tried that hard to make the estimates precise". This makes it effectively meaningless.[1]
Since 2024 the hit count has been more hidden. It's now shown under "Tools" after you search for something.[2]
