Guy

Guy has several meanings.

1. A first name, common in England. it comes from an Old French word meaning a guide.
2. A colloquial word for a man; the plural guys may be used for a group of people of either sex.
3. A rope or chain attached to something else, such as a tent, to help hold it up; hence, to guy means to support with a guy.
4. A crude effigy of Guy Fawkes, designed to be burnt on a bonfire on Guy Fawkes Day.
5. Someone of unsightly or grotesque appearance (obsolete, possibly coming from the previous meaning); hence, to guy means to make fun of someone because of their appearance.

A fall guy is a scapegoat.
