Smoke grenades come in a range of colors.

A hand grenade is a small weapon, designed to explode. Early grenades would be thrown towards the enemy, after a fuze had been lit.

In the 20th century variants were developed, like:

• incendiary grenade
• tear gas grenade
• stun grenade
• smoke grenade

Special firearms, called grenade launchers were developed, designed to project grenades farther than they can be thrown.
