Hudson River
The Hudson River is a river in New York State. It flows past Albany and New York City. It was discovered by Verrazano, then explored more thoroughly by Henry Hudson. It was originally colonized by the Dutch, and then later served as a pathway between the British colonies and French Canada to the north. During the Revolution it became the scene of fighting with a British defeat at Saratoga.
It was very polluted during the 20th century, with many aquatic species being wiped out. In recent years it has recovered somewhat.
