Ivor Newton
Ivor Newton (15 December 1892 - 2 April 1981) was a British pianist.
He studied the piano with Arthur Barclay (Director of Music, Brompton Oratory), York Bowen, and Isidore Snook (Amsterdam); he studied the Art of Accompanying and Repertoire with Raimund von zur Muhlen and Coenraad Bos (Berlin).
Throughout his career of over 60 yeqars he specialised in accompanying singers and instrumental soloists, notably Kirsten Flagstad, Dame Nellie Melba, Dame Clara Butt, Luisa Tetrazzini, Conchita Supervia, Lily Pons, Lotte Lehmann, Elizabeth Schumann, Victoria de los Angeles, Joan Hammond, Kathleen Ferrier, Fyodor Chaliapin, Beniamino Gigli, Tito Schipa, John McCormack, Jussi Björling, Tito Gobbi, Eugene Ysaye, Yehudi Menuhin, nathn Milstein, Pablo Casals, Grigory Piatigorsky, Guilhermina Suggia, Giuseppe di Stefano and Maria Callas.
