Jamaica
Jamaica is an island country located in the Caribbean Sea, south of Cuba. It was briefly settled by the Spanish, then became an English colony for hundreds of years. Slaves were brought from Africa to plantations, where they grew sugar for export. The conditions were so brutal that the population failed to grow for a long time, and had to be continually refreshed by the importation of new slaves.
Jamaica has been independent for a while, but still is nominally subject to the Queen. It is located in the northern hemisphere of Earth. Jamaican rum and reggae music are popular throughout the world.
The Jamaican bobsled team competed in the Olympics, inspiring the movie Cool Runnings.
