Joe Flaherty was an American actor and comedian best known for the work he did in Canada, where he made his home.[1]
Flaherty was born in Pittsburgh, in 1941, and spent several years working with other actors at Chicago's Second City Improv theatre, in 1969, before joining the new Second City branch, in Toronto, Canada. It was in Toronto that he first appeared on television, as one of the founding actors and writers on SCTV. Flaherty appeared in all six seasons of SCTV. He later played lovable mad scientist as the star of Maniac Mansion, for four seasons, and a variety of guest roles on other shows. Flaherty made an impression in supporting roles on films like Stripes and Happy Gilmore.
In 1995 he became an adjunct professor at Humber College, where he helped nurture young comedians.[1]

Born in Pittsburgh in 1941, Flaherty served with the U.S. Air Force for four years before joining Chicago improv group The Second City in 1969 — where his time would overlap with future Saturday Night Live star John Belushi as well as Harold Ramis, the Ghostbusters actor and Groundhog Day director.
