John Hancock

From Encyc

John Hancock was president of the Continental Congress and one of the founding fathers of the United States of America.

He personally experienced British oppression in 1768 when they confiscated his ship, Liberty, on suspicion of tax evasion. The charges were later dropped but the British kept the ship and used it in the Royal Navy.
