Judo
Appearance

Judo is a martial art originating in Japan, and now taught around the world.[1]
Judo was founded by Jigoro Kano, who synthesized its techniques from the techniques of a variety of deadly jui jutsu schools that flourished during Japan's martial past.[1][2]
The techniques taught in Judo do not include punches and kicks, because Kano wanted students to learn it for health, sport, and learning discipline, so potentially deadly punches and kicks were excluded.[2] Judo does include trips, grappling, throws, joint locks, holds, and choke holds.

Although many of the techniques of judo originated from arts that ere designed to hurt, maim, or kill opponents in actual field battle, the techniques of judo were modified so that judo students can practice and apply these techniques safely and without hurting opponents.
