Kurds

From Encyc

The Kurds are an ethnic group living in southeastern Turkey, Syria, northern Iraq, and northeast Iran, among other places. They speak a language in the Iranian group, and are mostly Muslim.

Efforts have been made to create an independent Kurdish state since the World War I era, but nothing has come of them. Kurds participated in the genocide of the Armenians, and now that Turkey has been made mostly Armenian-free, the Kurds are sometimes persecuted themselves.
