Teddy bears have held many important positions. They have often had the first name of Teddy, or the surname (occasionally first name) Bear, sometimes spelt Ber, Behr or (especially in German-speaking countries) Baer', Bähr or Baehr.

- Teddy Sagi, co-founder of Playtech, a FTSE 250 gambling software and services company, and the majority shareholder of Market Tech Holdings, which owns London's Camden Market. reputed to be the world's richest Teddy.
- Teddy Sheringham, footballer. Showing the physical superiority of teddies over humans, he is the only player in the history of the English Premier Division to continue playing after his 40th birthday.
- Bear Bryant, American college football coach.
- Rafael Behr, a political columnist for the Guardian. He has been political editor of the New Statesman, chief leader writer on the Observer and a foreign correspondent for the Financial Times in Russia and eastern Europe. He was named Political Commentator of the Year in the 2014 Editorial Intelligence comment awards.
