Lochspouts Loch (NS 2885 0586), also known simply as Lochspouts, was located in a hollow surrounded by hilly terrain on three sides and bordered to the north by a narrow trap dyke. Historically, the land was owned by the Ferguson family of Kilkerran and is situated in the Parish of Kirkoswald, South Ayrshire, Scotland. In the 19th century, the loch was converted into a reservoir.
This roughly oval-shaped loch was approximately three miles (five kilometres) southwest of Maybole. The natural trap dyke dam was the sole outflow for the loch, with several crevices in the dam allowing excess water to escape. During heavy rainfall, multiple "spouts" would discharge water simultaneously, which led to the name "Lochspouts". The main outflow was deepened to provide water for a waulkmill, which significantly reduced the water level and exposed the remains of a crannog.
