Machine gun

A machine gun is an automatic firearm that fires a full size round, such as is used by rifles. They are usually fed by belts or drums full of ammunition.

Machine guns became popular in the late part of the 19th century and were used to great effect in European colonial wars. In World War I they caused enormous casualties.
