Mauritius is an island country, east of Madagascar in the Indian Ocean. The capital city is Port Louis.
It gained independence from the British Empire in 1968.
Mauritius includes the main island of Mauritius, as well as a few smaller islands: Rodrigues, Agalega and St. Brandon. After a dispute with the UK, the country was given back the Chagos Islands in 2025.
