Appearance
NASA's first seven astronauts were known as the Mercury Seven because they were scheduled to fly NASA's first manned spacecraft, the Mercury spacecraft.[1]
They were: Alan Shepard, Donald "Deke" Slayton, Virgil "Gus" Grissom, John Glenn, Scott Carpenter, Walter Schirra and Gordon Cooper.[1]
