Nepal

From Encyc

Nepal is a country in Asia with about 30 million inhabitants. Most of them are Hindus and Buddhists. Much of the country is high in the Himalaya Mountains, often referred to as the "roof of the world".

Maoists, a strain of Communists, run the government in Nepal after the kingdom was overthrown in 2008. It is the location of Mount Everest, the highest mountain peak in the world, which lies partially in China.

Nepal was hit by a devastating earthquake in April 2015, killing almost 9000 people in the area around the capital Kathmandu. Nepal is prone to earthquakes because it is at the boundary of the Indian and Eurasian tectonic plates.
