Nuclear weapons
Nuclear weapons are real technologies that allow for mass-destruction. In this case, there is a large blast radius combined with left-over cancer causing radiation.
Atomic bombs have been built using plutonium or uranium warheads. These rely on nuclear fission to produce energy. Another type of bomb is the hydrogen bomb, which uses a fission reaction to start a fusion reaction where hydrogen is turned into helium. These are the most powerful weapons ever made.
Nuclear weapons need to be delivered to their targets. This can be as simple as carrying them in a suitcase. They can also be delivered by artillery, airplace rockets, cruise missiles, and ballistic missiles. Some ballistic missiles can carry multiple warheads and scatter them over a large area.
They have only been applied in actual conflicts during World War II.
