Obesity
Obesity is a medical condition where a person has a body fat percentage or body mass index which are over the recommended healthy values. It's a problem in most industrialized countries, mostly in Europe and North America. It is caused by chronic overconsumption of calories.
Obese people are likely to suffer a higher rate of many illnesses than non-obese people, such as:
- high blood pressure
- maturity-onset diabetes
- cancer
- among men, of the colon, rectum and prostate gland
- among women, of the breast, womb, ovary and gall bladder
- osteoarthritis, foot problems and other orthopaedic problems
- depression
Obesity can be fought through natural means (exercising and proper nutrition), proper education, and raising awareness.
