Operation Bagration
Operation Bagration was a Soviet offensive during World War II. Starting in June 1944, it coincided with the western Allied attack in Normandy, France. Taking place mostly in Belarus, in the Soviet Union, the offensive destroyed most of German Army Group Center, pushing the front hundreds of miles to the west and not stopping until the outskirts of Warsaw, Poland. Following the offensive German Army group North was cut off in Courland and Army Group South also suffered setbacks.
Considering Bagration and the Allied advances in Normandy there were elements in the German high command who knew that the war was lost. Some of them attempted to assassinate Hitler on July 20, 1944, but failed. The war continued until May 1945 causing devastation in Germany.
