Penybont FC

Penybont FC is a Welsh football club from Bridgend. The club uses the town's Welsh name, Penybont (ar Ogwr).
The club was founded in 2013 from a merger of Bridgend Town FC and Bryntirion Athletic FC, at the time both teams played in the Welsh Football League Division One (tier 2 of Welsh football).[1]
In 2018-19 they won the Welsh League and were promoted to the Cymru Premier. In 2021-22 they reached the final of the Welsh Cup but lost 3-2 against The New Saints.[1] In 2022-23 they finished 3rd which qualified them for the UEFA Europa Conference League, but lost 3-1 (on aggregate) in the first qualifying round against Andorran side FC Santa Coloma.
In 2024-25 they were in the race for the league title. At the time of the league split they were only 1 point behind The New Saints, but after the split The New Saints won the title quite comfortably. Their 2nd place finish again qualified them for the UEFA Conference League, but it was again a first qualifying round exit, against Lithuanian side FK Kauno Zalgiris.
In 2025-26 they were 3rd at the time of the league split but fell to 6th at the end of the season due to a long winless run. Being in the top half meant they were able to compete in the playoff for Wales's final European place. Despite not having won a match for almost four months,[2] they defeated Colwyn Bay after a penalty shootout in the playoff semi-final and won 2-0 against Haverfordwest in the final to qualify for the UEFA Conference League again. They were drawn to play FC Santa Coloma in the first qualifying round, a rematch of the 2023 tie. Penybont will host the first leg on Thursday 9 July 2026 at Cardiff City Stadium because their own ground does not meet UEFA regulations, and the second leg will be hosted a week later in Andorra.[3]
