Pheasant

Pheasants are a paraphyletic group of phasianid birds, they are common game birds found all across the Northern Hemisphere.

Genera

[edit | edit source]

Since pheasants are paraphyletic, there are many 'pheasant' genera, being the Phasianus ('true' pheasants), Chrysolophus (ruffed pheasants), Syrmaticus (long-tailed pheasants), and several other genera. Peacock-pheasants are not actually pheasants!
