Poverty

Poverty is when someone is poor and lacks the basic necessesities of life, like food, water, and shelter. It is most common in the Third World, and the cause of much death, misery, and environmental degradation.

The United States declared war on poverty in the 1960s. Since then there have been wars against other social ills as well.
