Appearance
In Computer Science the term protected mode is used to refer to CPUs can switch between protecting memory, and unprotected memory.
When operating systems run multiple computer programs, at one time, it is highly desirable to restrict each program to a dedicated portion of memory.[1] This prevents malicious or badly written programs from overwriting the instructions or data of other programs.
