From Encyc

Robert Henry Sorgenfrey (1915 – January 6, 1995) was an American mathematician and Professor Emeritus of Mathematics at the University of California, Los Angeles.[1] The Sorgenfrey line and the Sorgenfrey plane are named after him; the Sorgenfrey line was the first example of a normal topological space whose product with itself is not normal.

In the Media[edit]

Sorgenfrey is a major figure in Never Split Tens!, a novel based on the life of pioneering blackjack probability theorist Edward O. Thorp, by gambling writer Les Golden published in 2017 by Springer. Sorgenfrey introduced Thorp to the concept of strategy play at blackjack while the latter was a Ph.D student at UCLA.
