Sad clown

A Sad Clown is a clown that has a frown painted on his face. They are generally used as the comic foil of the normally happy clown. Sad clowns give a socially acceptable outlet for the audience's natural instinct to ridicule someone who is a loser. Despite the sad face, sad clowns are not necessarily played by sad people. Clowns in general though are usually played by sad individuals who have alcohol or personal problems.
