Sardinian language

From Encyc

The Sardinian language is a romance language, derived from Latin, one of the language of the ancient Roman empire. Scholars say that, of all the romance language, Sardinian is the one that most resembles ancient Latin.

Sardinia, where Sardinian is spoken, is part of modern Italy, but Sardinian is not a dialect of the Italian language. Nor is Sardinian the only language spoken in Sardinia. There are enclaves where other languages are spoken, including one on the northwest coast, where the Catalan language is spoken.
