Scandi grind

From Encyc
Morakniv Basic 511 Carbon Steel 5, featuring a scandi grind.

A scandi grind or scandinavian grind is a type of geometry for knife edges. It features a simple wedge shape at the edge, which then ends with a flat section that runs back to the spine.[1]

Scandi grinds are good for woodworking because they are durable and produce nice wood chips. The do tend to get hung up in larger pieces of wood. They are not so great for food preparation or for butchering meat.

A disadvantage of the simple edge with no secondary bevel is that to sharpen it, a larger amount of steel must be removed.

Swedish manufacturer Morakniv and other Scandinavian companies are known for Scandi grinds.
