Simple English Wikipedia

From Encyc

The Simple English Wikipedia is a variation of Wikipedia which is supposed to be for writing articles written for people who do not have a good command of the English language, for example people who speak English as a second language, people who speak a pidgin English, youths and people who have a mental disability.

To date, the project has been something of a failure, with many articles there being ridiculously complicated.

As it is monitored far less than the larger Wikipedia versions, it has also been prone to a lot of disruption. One example of the disruption was performed by Kimberly Ashton. This absence of monitoring also means that it can act as a second chance for people banned from other Wikimedia projects, as in the case with Iamandrewrice.

It is supposed to be written in Simple English, a reduced form of English with a very limited vocabulary. Simple English was originally developed as a way to write instruction manuals that would be easy for people to read worldwide.
