Snow
Snow is a form of ice or frozen water. It appears white due to the scattering of light but is actually transparent and colourless. It is composed of individual hexagonal crystals; it is often claimed that no two of these crystals are ever identical. When snow is falling, these crystals clump together as flakes. Very heavy snow, exacerbated by a strong wind, is a blizzard. When snow settles on the ground in a thick layer, it can be very disruptive of transport, blocking roads and railways.
Snow is useful for recreation including skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling, snowshoe walking, sledding, building forts, and snowball fights.
