South Park

From Encyc

South Park is the name of a TV series that is primarily a comedy show but also deals with a number of topical and political issues, who has described itself as "Not suitable for anyone", which has led TV producers and parents to be confused as to what age group it is suitable for (although generally older teens are considered to be suitable). It is created by Trey Parker and Matt Stone.

The show is based primarily around 4 3rd grade children:

  • Cartman - an overweight child who is incredibly egotistical, rude, entirely self centred, and is trying to take over the world. Known for his catch phrase "Screw you guys, I'm going home". Is also blatantly anti-Semitic.
  • Kyle - a softly spoken Jewish boy who is overwhelmed by his domineering mother (and his passive father, who supports his mother's domineering nature). Often ends up doing crazy things, but in sensible ways. Calls Cartman fat, and is forever complaining about the various anti-Semitic comments made by Cartman.
  • Stan - an ordinary everyday American child with nothing unusual about him at all, who is in many ways the centre of the show. Has a father who is paranoid and does a lot of stupid things, and often comes up with life lessons such as "You know..."
  • Kenny - a poor child who wears a hooded top every day, and who says a variety of rude, sexual things that cannot easily be heard (although fans have gone to lengths to try to figure out what he was saying). Kenny also dies a lot, to which Kyle and Stan say "OMG! You killed Kenny! You bastards!" which in many ways became the catch phrase of the show itself. In early episodes, Kenny died in every episode, although in later episodes sometimes Kenny didn't die and sometimes he died and went to heaven etc.

A variety of other characters also make appearances, including Mr Garrison, the closet homosexual teacher who is possibly the worst teacher in existence, that ends up being openly gay and having "slave" as his boyfriend / BDSM, then has a sex change operation, briefly becomes a lesbian, then speaks out about women's rights. Other characters include "Mr Hankey, the Christmas poo" and a variety of others.

The show's aim, primarily, is for every episode to have a moral. It is politically incorrect, although it makes fun of everyone equally.

Many supporters of the show suggest that in actual fact it should be shown to children because of the good morals that it teaches.

Opponents of the show suggest that it should be banned completely, because it is so rude and it is so discriminatory, against Jews if nothing else.
