Spongebob Squarepants is a popular children's cartoon show.

The show is focussed around a square sponge called "Spongebob", who, because he is square, has square pants, hence his name. He lives in pineapple under the sea.

The setting for the show is apparently a child's goldfish bowl. It includes the sponge, cut into the shape of a square, as would be used in a child's bath. This is the probable inspiration for the show.

The show is a very positive, stupid, show, with Spongebob appearing to have no intelligence whatsoever, yet he is very kind and good things happen to him. Due to his sheer stupidity, even when bad things happen, he is too dumb to really notice it. It has some kind of wonderful innocence about it.
