Stephen Colbert is an American comedian.

Colbert spent several years as a correspondent on Comedy Central's The Daily Show. Colbert created a character, also named Stephen Colbert, who reliably adopted a ridiculously right-wing interpretation of the news items he reported on. In 2005 Comedy Central spun off a show, which he headlined, entitled "The Colbert Report". It followed directly after The Daily Show. It ran for 1447 episodes. In 2015 Colbert became the host of The Tonight Show.

During his time on The Tonight Show Colbert, like his rival late night talk show hosts, offered mocking commentary on President Donald Trump. When The Tonight Show's parent company was vulnerable, because it was in the midst of a buyout, it announced the cancelation of his show. Both commentators, and Trump himself, interpreted this cancellation as an act of retaliation from Trump.
