Straits of Tiran

The Straits of Tiran are a narrow seaway connecting the Gulf of Aqaba to the rest of the Red Sea. It is the only sea route from the Israeli port of Eilat and the Jordanian port of Aqaba to the Indian Ocean.

Passage through the straits can be easily blockaded by Egypt to the west or Saudi Arabia to the east. In the peace treaty with Israel, Egypt agreed not to do this anymore.
