Syrian Civil War

The Syrian Civil War is an ongoing conflict. The fascist dictator Bashar Assad was deposed and fled into exile. His somewhat secular government had been supported by a coalition of groups, mainly Shiite Muslims, Alawites, Druze, Christians, and Yazidis, and also some Sunni Muslims.

Assad's government was known for brutal repression including disappearances, torture, and dropping "barrel bombs" (improvised incendiary bombs) on rebellious neighborhoods.

An Islamist group took over, and although they pledged not to persecute everyone else, they killed several hundred Christians and Druze in 2025.
