Wikipedia's version[edit]

The intro to Wikipedia's Canada article states:

Beginning in the late 15th century, British and French expeditions explored, and later settled, along the Atlantic coast.

This is misleading, because it implies that settlement was concentrated along the Atlantic coast. The St. Lawrence River provides access to the interior of the continent, and in fact the French were pushing up the river quite early and were exploring the Great Lakes region and even as far as the Mississippi. Most of the settlement was concentrated in Quebec and Montreal, which are not really on the Atlantic coast. Auggie 14:16, 26 September 2011 (UTC)
