Should we have an article entitled Sol, that supercedes this article entitled Sun...

One of the bees in my bonnet? I get irritated when people use the phrase "other solar systems..." To my way of thinking there is only one "Solar system" -- the system of bodies that circles SOL I'd like people to refer to "other stellar systems..." or "other star systems..."

I think this article should be entitled Sol, although it can note often called The Sun. Geo Swan (talk) 05:56, 2 January 2026 (UTC)

Ping @Enki. Call me eccentric. I think this article should be entitled Sol, not Sun. If, for the sake of argument, humans ever colonize other star systems, those colonists may call their local star the Sun. Okay, humans would probably be speaking something other than English, but it is the principle that matters.

I left the previous not 6 months ago. But I am old now, and didn't remember I already looked into this, and was halfway through creating a stub, at Sol.

FWIW, because Earth, Mercury, Venus have clear other meanings, I think all the planets should be at articles entitled Planet Earth, etc. Mercury, right now, is at Mercury (planet). Geo Swan (talk) 08:04, 31 May 2026 (UTC)
