Tara Nettleton

From Encyc
Tara Nettleton

Tara Nettleton was an Australian woman, who converted to Islam and travelled to Daesh-controlled Syria, with her husband Khaled Sharrouf. The pair took their five children, the eldest of whom was thirteen years old.

Sharrouf volunteered to fight on behalf of Daesh.

Soon after their arrival their eldest child was married to a friend of their parents, who also volunteered to fight on behalf of Daesh.

Sharrouf published photos of his two young sons with him, on the front line. Sharrouf and the two young boys died, on the front line.

Nettleton herself died from poor medical care. Some accounts say she developed appendicitis, and that Daesh had no qualified surgeons available to operate on her.

Her eldest child, although still a minor, undertook a parental role for her surviving siblings, in addition to the young children her forced marriages to Islamic fighters brought her.

Nettleton's mother, the children's grandmother, struggled, for years, to have Nettleton's children repatriated to Australia.
