Template:Abbr/sandbox

From Encyc

Does this allow one to use <abbr title="">? Actually, this works out of the box (tested in my sandbox)... not sure what this template adds User:Auggie. Maybe you know, since you added it? ^^

I don't remember adding this template. It might have come along when I imported some stuff.

At any rate, it seems like a pretty cool template. You can hover over an abbreviation and get the full term.

I think the "title=" syntax is HTML, which works too.

example:

The {{abbr|WHO|World Health Organization}} was founded in 1948.

The WHO was founded in 1948.

is equivalent to

The <abbr title="World Health Organization">WHO</abbr> was founded in 1948.

The WHO was founded in 1948.

They both work. The template is slightly shorter and maybe more user-friendly?

Awesome find! :)

Thanks, Auggie! The original text is a lot more readable with the mw-template than with HTML tags. I've used <abbr> a lot for inline (pop-up) translations and so I was curious when I saw it in the list of imported templates. Xphrog (talk) 18:20, 25 January 2017 (CST)
