The Case to Legalize All Drugs
The Case to Legalize All Drugs is based on the proposition that it is the major cause of the catastrophic existence in America's cities.
The Advantages[edit]
By legalizing all drugs, the gangs are put out of business, and the existing dealers with their sales and distribution networks are motived to go legal and learn business skills. Gun violence between gangs over "turf" would cease, as well as the spillover crime into adjacent communities. One law enforcement officer relates that 98% of all crime in the cities are drug-based. The details of the advantages are summarized in a Chicago Tribune column written by Les Golden.
The Sad Political Reality[edit]
However, it'll never happen because law enforcement and prosecution and incarceration is a trillion dollar business and most inmates are related to drugs. Without them as clients all the lawyers, judges, bailiffs, wardens, public defenders, prosecutors, defense attorneys, and clerks would be out of work. Plus any enlightened legislator putting forth such a proposal would face a well-funded opponent and would certainly lose his life-time cushiony job.
