The Ghost and the Darkness (1996) is a movie starring Val Kilmer and Michael Douglass. It takes place in 1898 in East Africa. Kilmer is an engineer, working for a British company, and needs to build a railroad bridge. The workers are a mix of British, Africans, and Indians. They must contend with two man-eating lions. When they are unable to kill them, they bring in Michael Douglass and his friends to help.

The film is inspired by true events. The lions have been preserved and are on display at a museum in Chicago.
