The Magnificent Ambersons

Scene from The Magnificent Ambersons

The Magnificent Ambersons (1942) is a movie directed by Orson Welles. It tells the story of an extended family and their transition into modernity from the late 19th to the early 20th century.

The movie was apparently quite good, but studio execs did not like the length and they aggressively edited it and then lost or destroyed the parts that they cut out. This left the story almost incomprehensible in parts. The film still has some very powerful scenes and is some of Orson Welles' best work.
